Best DC Pizza?

Pizzas
So… my DCist post on the best pizza in town has solicited numerous comments, some slamming me for my approach, some slamming me for my grammar, and many whining about how much better New York-style pizza is. I wrote it in the article, it’s not conclusive. I also recognize it’s not exhaustive, and yeah every now and then my grammar isn’t always completely correct. But I was sober enough to taste the differences. Despite awarding the crown of the evening to Comet, I don’t exactly love Carole Greenwood and her policies. I also seriously believe that the pizza you have on one night will not be the same pizza you have on another night (again, something I mentioned). But it was as honest an assessment I could provide. I might have elaborated further on exactly how much influence the fornaio (thank you commenter) has on the pizza.

And I strongly believe tastes differ, which is why it’s on my about page. In fact, I am a bigger fan of thicker-crusted pizzas, and the pizza I’ve had from auto stops in Italy could beat the pants off the best pizza I’ve had in the US.

Anyway, looks like it caught the attention of Tim Carman, and Adam Kuban of Slice/Serious Eats.

In other news: I broke the coffee machine on the eighth floor at work. I put the wrong size cup below, couldn’t get the door closed properly, and there was an error message. I tried to fix it to no avail, so I ran! Sorry! I’m a moron.

Sounds like DCist commenters are a lot like the ones on Gothamist—going after grammar, etc. I liked the piece. I think you’re right about pizza differing from night to night. Obvs, the best places will have a certain consistency, but if it’s the one thing I’ve learned from eating pizza in the four years I’ve done Slice, it’s that most of the “best” places are anything but consistent. Unfortunately.
