Wandering through WalGreens I noticed they’d put out another brand extension of the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. It took me back to sophomore year of high school when they had the peanut butter cups with the chocolate cookie base. Some company had delivered a whole bunch of those promotional item boxes with razors, cologne samples AND those peanut butter cups. They weren’t allowed to hand them out to the students. However, we managed to grab whole piles of those boxes and took out all the peanut butter cups. Those were an awesome brand extension, and sadly, no longer around.
I was a little excited about the new cups, because I thought it might be similar to the Reese’s Fast Break and the Hershey’s Take 5… minus some of those other ingredients. I was sorely disappointed. The cup itself is the same size as the regular peanut butter cup. However, there is a big glob of caramel in the bottom, reducing the amount of peanut butter in the cup. The flavor of the caramel was not good, basically that of gooey sugar. It tasted undercaramelized, and there was insufficient quantities of peanut butter in proportion to the caramel. It was very sweet without enough of the salty hit the peanut butter usually offers. I would pick a regular Reese’s cup over it any day.
